Hypocritical TX Governor attempts to distract from controversial pardon announcement

We don't like to give any more attention than necessary to disgraceful politicians like Texas Governor Greg Abbott, but this week he turned his hateful twitter account on Felony Murder Elimination Project's vital work to provide hope and healing to individuals serving extreme sentences in California through SB94. Not only was his post a deeply hypocritical attempt to distract from his recent decision to pardon an individual who recently killed a Black Lives Matter protestor, but his tweet was replete with misinformation.

SB94, which passed Public Safety Committee on Tuesday, is a vital piece of legislation that represents an important step in addressing the state's racist and discriminatory history of life without parole and death penalty sentencing.

His tweet, pictured above, is:

  1. Sourced from a partisan news site that was previously used in spreading mass disinformation designed to flip Democratic-held California house seats in elections dating back to 2020.
  2. Factually incorrect on its face as SB94 would simply provide judicial review for individuals who have served decades upon decades in prison.

We cannot allow this misinformation to spread unchecked.

@GregAbbott_TX swings at criminal justice reform in CA and misses. SB94 is safe, sane, and compassionate. Thank you @SenDaveCortese for this important bill.

When it comes to racial justice, @GregAbbott_TX has always stood on the wrong side of history, CA shouldn't be taking criminal justice advice from him.
