Clemency Now! Leading With Justice and Mercy

Heidi • October 17, 2024

Families Against Mandatory Minimums (FAMM), a non-profit organization working to challenge mandatory sentencing laws and advocate for criminal justice reform, announced a new campaign to compel policy makers, especially those leaving office soon, to use their executive clemency powers to give many incarcerated people a second chance.

With only a short window of time left to convince outgoing President Joe Biden and state governors who are leaving office to grant mercy and use their powers of clemency, FAMM and its partner advocacy groups are all in to win freedom and justice for a record number of people in prison and their families, launching the Clemency Now! Leading With Justice and Mercy campaign.

Every week, FAMM will be sharing up content and actions across social media that everyone can take to help  make the case, plus offering a number of trainings diving into what clemency is, how it works, and how to apply at the federal and state levels.

To begin with, as part of the campaign launch, FAMM is asking all supports and advocates to sign this petition as the first step in supporting the campaign. Please feel free to share this petition on your social media networks and channels; everyone who signs will get up-to-date info from FAMM about trainings and advocacy opportunities and more.

FAMM has also sent letters to lame duck governors urging them to make broad use of their clemency powers during their remaining time in office.

Please tune in to FAMM's social media pages to find this content for this vitally important, reform-minded campaign to share with your networks.

Families Against Mandatory Minimums (FAMM) works to create a more fair and effective justice system that respects our American values of individual accountability and dignity while keeping our communities safe.
