NEW - Update on the Advocacy Toolkit for CA Budget Hearings
NEW UPDATE to toolkit ahead of Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Public Safety and the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Health
In February, we called on our supporters and advocates to mobilize ahead of upcoming California legislative budget hearings, and remind elected representatives to focus on reducing corrections spending, closing prisons, and investing in the critical social, health, education and environmental programs that are currently at risk.
It's so important to pass on updated information when it comes to these movements, so please make note of these updated materials to help hold legislative feet to the fire when funding the government with our tax dollars toward policy that reflects our values.
The context of the letters are being updated regularly according to what's on budget hearing agendas, so please keep participating!
***UPDATE 3/18/2025
The Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Public Safety and the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Health are currently meeting. The Public Safety subcommittee will be discussing Prop 36, and we hope you'll join us in telling them to direct Prop 36 implementation funding to public defenders & other indigent defense providers, continue to close prisons, and redirect billions in corrections spending to areas proven to keep our communities safe.
When we last updated our followers on 3/14/2025, our community had submitted 3,124 letters. Thanks to your hard work, that number is now up to 3,809! Let's keep rolling to meet that 4,000 target number.

Also, we're calling all budget advocates across sectors to sign up for Budget 2 Save Lives' Budget Advocacy Rolodex (BAR) where we are uniting around shared priorities, sharing talking points, and mobilizing for hearings together.
Push the word out and keep the support letters coming - we're so grateful for your hard work and advocacy toward ensuring our decision makers are informed of our values of a fair and just criminal justice system.
