On this week's episode of "Rights & Wrongs," a weekly podcast that examines human rights issues around the world from Human Rights Watch, host Kosi Ogbuli discusses the increasing trend of life without parole sentences in California, a punishment he describes as "death in slow motion."


Kiilu Washington discusses the environment and decisions that led to his experience with the criminal justice system, being sentenced to life without parole at age 18, and his journey to make a difference in the lives of others.


Also featured on this episode is Amanda Leavell, a researcher and advocate at the Children’s Rights Division of Human Rights Watch. She recently authored the HRW report on the reintegration of people sentenced to life without parole, appropriately titled "I Just Want To Give Back."

New Hampshire Considers Legislation to Expand Wrongful Conviction Parameters

In New Hampshire, there is a strict three-year deadline to file a motion for a new trial, regardless when new exonerating evidence is discovered. Senate Bill 141 would create room for exceptions and allow the wrongfully convicted to file a motion after three years if there is newly discovered evidence.
