Documentary features immigrant incarerated at Pelican Bay serving LWOP

This blog recently featured the documentary "Sansón and Me," an award-winning film about a young man, Sansón, who is currently incarcerated at Pelican Bay with an LWOP sentence. The film will make its broadcast debut on PBS tomorrow, Tuesday, September 19, 2023 (check your local listings for the broadcast time). It will also be available to stream the same day on the PBS App.

During his day job as a court interpreter in a small town in California, filmmaker Rodrigo Reyes met a young man named Sansón, an undocumented Mexican immigrant who was sentenced to Life Without Parole. Sansón and Rodrigo have worked together for over a decade, creating the documentary "Sansón and Me."  Authorities won’t allow Sansón to be filmed, so Reyes shares his story through dramatic reenactments of his letters, using members of his own family as actors.

The movie is an incredible tool for movements to explain the harm LWOP brings to young people and to immigrant communities. Please share the broadcast debut with your communities; additionally, please let people that you are in touch with inside know that this will be happening so that they can arrange to watch it.

You can watch the trailer for "Sansón and Me" on Youtube.

You can also spread the word of tomorrow's broadcast of this valuable documentary on your social media accounts, using this social media toolkit, including sample posts, and a press kit (opens as a compressed folder).
