Save the Date - Close CA Prisons Community Rally

This is a subtitle for your new post

Californians United for a Responsible Budget (CURB) is planning a community rally in Norco, CA to demand the closure of at least five more state prisons, starting with the California Rehabilitation Center (CRC). The rally is scheduled for Saturday July 20th, starting at 9am PT, and will be located in a public space near CRC (the exact location will named soon).

California Governor Gavin Newsom's 2024-25 budget prioritizes prisons over people. In advocating for at least five more prison closures, CURB's #CloseCAPrisons campaign is starting at CRC Norco, which is notorious for its unsafe conditions and mismanagement.

California's prisons not only exert a profound and detrimental impact on communities of color and working-class neighborhoods, but they also affect rural economies. Sold the idea of prisons as economic solutions, these rural communities have yet to see the promised benefits. It’s time to support a just transition away from carceral and environmentally extractive economies and towards workforce development and infrastructure that serves everyone's interests more equitably.

California tax dollars should be redirected toward critical needs in Riverside County and beyond! Out-of-control prison spending is a major factor in the state's $44 billion+ budget deficit. It's time to redirect money out of CDCR and into our communities.
