Show Your Support for SB94 With a Support Letter by April 4th

Letters sent will be considered at Senate Public Safety Committee hearing on April 11th

SB 94 is heading to the California Senate Public Safety Committee for its first vote on April 11th. If passed, this bill would allow for persons who have served at least 20 years under LWOP or the death penalty and for offenses committed before June 5, 1990 to petition the court for judicial review. The resentencing hearing would permit mitigating factors to be considered that are widely recognized today, but were not two decades ago. Factors such as intimate partner violence, childhood trauma, neglect, or trauma related to military service, youth (under age 26), mental illness, and rehabilitative achievements, to name a few.


Now is the time for you to show your support for this bill!


To do that, you can take two actions:


1.    Submit your support letter by Tuesday, April 4th at 3pm!

You can submit your signed letter of support to the Legislative Portal (https://calegislation.lc.ca.gov/Advocates/, instructions here) and please email a copy to SB94letters@gmail.com. See the highlighted instructions at the top of the template letter.

 

Incarcerated folks or anyone who can’t access the Legislative Portal can mail their support letter directly to Senator Cortese’s office (Senator Dave Cortese - 1021 N. Street, Suite 6640 - Sacramento, CA 95814).
